Nebraska Camp 2007

I just came back from speaking at the Nebraska Teen Camp. Wow! What a great time we had as we discovered together in community what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. As we went through the No Limits Discipleship Journal throughout the week, we felt God's challenge to become all that he created us to be.

There were around 100 students there. Here are some of my new friends from our journey together during the week!

NYC Prep #3 WIND

NYC07_00_Logo-web.jpg

One of the ideas we shared for NYC's in the past was to make sure you have done all you can to prepare for an awesome experience with God and friends. Too many times we have come together for an event like this with no spiritual preparation. God wants us to be challenged at NYC, but I believe there are some things we can do to get ready intentionally.

Such as, if you are a part of a discipleship group, make plans together to study God's written Word throughout the weeks prior to NYC. Here's some Scripture to read:

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. – John 14:12

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. – Acts 1:8

Theme: With God’s Spirit we can do whatever God calls us to.

Focus: Fear normally drives us, but God calls us to be strong and courageous. He gives us this courage through His Spirit.

Mark Schultz

Mark Schultz, Dove award winner and platinum selling Christian recording artist, is currently on an "ACROSS AMERICA" bike ride this summer to raise support for orphans and widows. From May 6 through early July, Mark will bicycle from California to New Hampshire stopping along the way to perform concerts and special events. Mark's inspiration to make this 3,500-mile trek came from a visit he and his wife, Kate, made to orphanages in Mexico. In the spring of 2006, they went on a mission trip with The James Fund, a non-profit organization founded by Family Christian Stores, to meet the needs of orphans and widows in distress. Mark's own adoption drew him to explore this ministry. Seeing firsthand the harsh realities for many orphans and realizing that he could have easily been one of the boys in the orphanage, Mark wanted to make a difference. He made a decision to reach out to orphans through active support of The James Fund.

Everybody's peddling something…but Mark says, "My wheels are turning to actually get somewhere." And that destination is Mark's cause, helping orphans and widows. "With your help we can do more than make the wheels of my bike turn; together, we can make every turn a momentum-building revolution - motivating others to join us and push this cause further down the road." Check out his web site.

Where In The World Are...

100_3026 web.jpg

Some of you have been asking where the guys are now and what they are doing since they graduated last year from high school. Here's a brief run down on them:

Brady has finished his freshman year at MidAmerica Nazarene University. He's been involved in some of the theatrical plays on campus, as well as baseball. He and Brian were roommates during their freshman year. This summer Brady is making money by umping at baseball games in summer league.

Brian has taken a class during the beginning of the summer to finish his freshman year. He wanted to get a start on his sophomore year that way. This summer he continues to work on the MNU campus as part of the library staff. He plans to be at NYC this summer with the Kansas City District. Maybe you can meet him there!

Jeff completed his freshman year at Olivet Nazarene University by taking a class to move him into his sophomore year, also. He's said it's better that way because he can concentrate on just one class for a few weeks which makes it a little easier, not that the class was easy though. This summer Jeff is working at a summer camp in Colorado as counselor as well as in maintenance. Maybe you will see him at a camp this summer!

Let us know what you're doing for the summer. How is God working in your life during the summer months? What are you and your discipleship group doing to follow Jesus more fully?

NYC Prep #1 WATER

NYC07_00_Logo-web.jpg

One of the ideas we shared for NYC's in the past was to make sure you have done all you can to prepare for an awesome experience with God and friends. Too many times we have come together for an event like this with no spiritual preparation. God wants us to be challenged at NYC, but I believe there are some things we can do to get ready intentionally.

Such as, if you are a part of a discipleship group, make plans together to study God's written Word throughout the weeks prior to NYC. Here's some Scripture to read:

My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. – Jeremiah 2:13

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” – John 4:13-14

On the last and greatest day of the Feast [of Sukkot], Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” – John 7:37-38

Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? – James 3:11

Theme: Christ is the only one who can quench our spiritual thirst.

Focus: We try to quench our spiritual thirst through many things, but they all fail us. The only truly satisfying and life giving “water” is found in Christ.
